St John’s acoustics emphasise The Wonder of Woodwind!
“What a lovely idea to have a half term concert to include children – it was wonderful!” (Audience comment)
One of our first follow on concerts following the completion of our organ restoration project with its full and dynamic education and community programme was a half-term family concert given by Reigate Winds. What a glorious sound they made in St John’s with the wonderful acoustics lighting up this brilliant programme of engaging and accessible woodwind music!
“The instrumentalists were great and describe the music and their instruments in an engaging way.
We thoroughly enjoyed it – thank you!”
We were able to explore the sounds of the flute, oboe, and bassoon both individually nd together as the three performers brought us enchanting sounds, and took us to joyful places. There was something for everyone to enjoy from the youngest upwards - starting with a reflective piece by Frank Bridge and ending with the incredible Flight of the Bumble Bee (Rimsky Korsakov)!
The Concert – which was a partnership between St Johns and ABC Concerts - also gave the audience the opportunity to meet the musicians and have a good look at the instruments.
“We enjoyed chatting to the musicians afterwards.”
