The Organ Project Steering Group

The Organ Project Steering Group (OPSG) was established in 2022 by the PCC of St John’s to oversee and manage the Organ Conservation and Restoration Project and its Education and Community programme.  This includes delivering the requirements of the project funders, including the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Hampshire and the Islands Historic Churches Trust.

The project hopes to engage, excite, and inspire a large, diverse range of people to discover the unique cultural and heritage assets of St John’s and its notable instrument. By engaging with education and the community, the project aims to reinforce understanding that the heritage of the church and its organ is for everyone.

Working with a range of partners and with the help of our Animateur, the project will involve the community in music and heritage workshops, a wide range of events and an in-depth educational collaboration with students at Perins School, Alresford. This comprehensive programme is designed to interest and intrigue people of all ages in both the building itself and its legacy in a planned, sustainable, and ongoing way.
